How to find manufacturing date of a car?

Knowing your car's manufacturing date is very important. This is useful when you buy a used car or a new one. Automotive manufactures all over the world use a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which can be decoded to get the Month & Year of production.

Each car has a unique VIN that is usually stamped somewhere within the engine bay, or around the passenger compartment. 
Important: The letters "I", "O" and "Q" are never used in a VIN.
